Weekly consumptions

If you’re wondering, the featured image for this post is an x-ray of Cookie, who decided to eat a sharp earring off of the nightstand this week! He ended up being perfectly fine, but not after costing me $200! Having a dog is fun!

Anyway, here are some weekly consumptions:

  • Delicious in DungeonZach and I started watching the Netflix series which of course made me immediately go find the manga to read so I know what happens next. As someone who also really liked Food Wars and likes dungeon crawlers, this one is really cute! I think the art’s good, it’s got a nice slice-of-life feel to it while also maintaining some good mystery and a straightforward plot. Plus cute dogs1 (Kobolds)!

  • Fargo season 5I started watching the Fargo TV series again because it’s something I’ve always wanted to watch but never really got into. I think season 5 is pretty good, but the ending feels really forced to me. Season 5 was really going for a political thing here, a sort of “who is really in power the rich or the powerful” and also tossing in a lot about forgiveness and the debts we owe each other. I think they mostly get that right. Fargo as a series has been sort of obsessed with the idea of myths and stories and the duties people have to do or journey’s they have to take. It makes sense for the final series to poke fun at that just a bit, asking why we can’t just form a new path for ourselves, independent of the bloody and violent myths we think define us. But, idk, I think season 3 (another political, formed by Trump season) nails this concept a bit more.

  • Alan Wake III want to write something longer about Alan Wake II because I think it’s a truly fascinating game to play. But, for now, I’ll just throw in some basic thoughts. I played Alan Wake I after reading other reviews that Alan Wake II was the game of the year and I felt sort of lukewarm about it as a game. I got what it was trying to do but the controls felt weird and the story was barebones. So I wasn’t expecting much from the sequel. The sequel hits it out of the park. The characters feel realized, the story feels creepy and meta in just the right way, and the controls are vastly improved from the first game. I love that so much of the game is you literally piecing together cases as an FBI agent, it’s a nice way of giving you the plot directly while still capturing the essence of the detective/murder game.I also really loved that they brought the Control (a game I loved) universe into the game. I’m almost finished with it, but am finding all the collectibles before doing the final story mission, so maybe I’ll write more depending on if they stick the landing or not.2

  • The traitors, season 2For the life of me, I cannot figure out what compels people to immediately assume the first person’s name said must be the traitor. Are all of you dumb?? Also if I have to see another person on a reality TV show get upset that they had to lie to win a quarter of a million dollars3 I am going to lose it!

  • The creeping tide of sicknessOne thing, I didn’t really expect when I decided to date a preschool teacher was being constantly exposed to sickness. Zach’s had multiple covid exposures the last few weeks so I’ve been playing it safe and waiting 5 days, but multiple exposures means I have to keep resetting that timeline. Now he actually got sick, with something that definitely isn’t covid, but passed it to me and I am now, midway through Friday starting to feel nauseous and tired. 🤒

  • 30 rock (again)I think we forget how many jokes originated from 30 Rock. I also realized after rewatching with Zach that 30 Rock is probably the TV show I’ve seen the most of…4

  • Does he Love you, Rilo Kiley5The lyric: Let's not forget ourselves, good friend/You and I were almost dead/And you're better off for leaving/Yeah, you're better off for leaving is just chefs kiss.
