Girls5eva, Good Luck Babe, and other small consumptions

Girls5eva

I binged Girls5Eva because I needed something to watch while visiting my parents over Easter weekend. Strangely, I’ve never heard of this show before when it sits at the intersection of so many shows I’ve liked in the past. Earnestly, when I saw it on a review site I assumed it was a completely new show and was excited to give it a try.

Watching it feels a lot like watching Kimmy Schmidt and 30 Rock. The beats are all there and they even clearly borrow sound cues from the other shows. I know Netflix agreed to air season three after Peacock canceled the show but I strongly doubt it’ll be the type of show that becomes anything other than a niche love for a small community.

Which is unfortunate because we could really do, culture-wise, with more joke-a-minute shows like 30 Rock.

3 Body Problem

I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately1, and started watching this after a few recommendations from other folks. I honestly could not tell you if I liked anything about that show. It was very pretty and some parts were compelling but…eh. Then I read the plot synopsis of the original books it’s based on and am even more like…ehhhhh.

Eclipse

The eclipse was fun, even if we could only see bits of it through the clouds. Zach was off work because his school closed due to all the chaos of Eclipse day so we took Cookie for a walk and hung around the apartment complex with other folks watching it get dark and spooky.

Chicago planning

Zach and I have been wanting to go on a vacation for a while now and to go to Chicago for a while now.2 It’s hard because the only days he gets off are during the summer when he is not working (but still getting paid), and I hateeee summer travel, much preferring traveling when it’s rainy and cold.

Anyway, we’re going in June for one of their pride weekends and I’m consumed with finding stuff to do. If you’ve been to Chicago and have any recommendations please share them with me!

Good Luck, Babe!I hate that the closest I’ve ever come to being a stan for someone is Chappell Roan. But that makes 100% sense to me.3

II Most Wanted

Look I am also a Miley stan. Not enough to go to a concert, but enough to nod my head and go “good for her.”

Drag RaceI added this just to give my opinions on this season which are that it is sooooo bad. It’s the clearest case of production manipulation I’ve seen in like any recent season. I love Saphirra and I love Nymphia, I’m totally fine with them being in the final three. But going on the subreddit or scrolling through Twitter to see so many people hardcore stanning Plane? For what? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills because she has shown zero personality or thought to her drag other than “I’m trying to be funny but also glamour” and every single one of our outfits is the EXACT same silhouette.

I want to be clear too that it’s not that her drag is bad. She looks great in what she wears, but so what! What is it saying? What’s its point? It feels like Plane is a pure Drag Race drag queen, creating looks solely for the runway.

The saving grace of this season is how ruthlessly Ru Paul kicked Q out of the competition. Q should have been gone weeks ago but was saved primarily because they’re a really really good designer that creates some cool looks.

And look, reality TV is reality TV. We’re only seeing what the producers want us to, but damn this season is so clearly produced it’s hard to watch…

FF7 Rebirth The newest part to the FF7 remake is just a party game masquerading as a JPRG. I think I’ve spent more time playing and trying to pass mini games than I have actually doing the main story, which, IDK yet if I think that’s a problem or not.

Younger & Dumber, Indigo De Souza

For both:

When I was younger, younger and dumber

Built like a flower

You came to pick me from out of the city

You turned me sour

When I was younger, younger and prouder

I was nobody

You came to hurt me in all the right places

Made me somebody

And:

And the love I feel is so powerful

It can take you anywhere

And the love I feel is so very real

It'll drag you down, oh, oh
